Make Ready for outdoor fun… after an action-packed season in summer 2018 we’re back with new games, new activities and even more unplugged fun in the woods.

It’s time to get outside, run around, play and make new friends, leaving those screens and term-time pressures behind. Our Holiday Day Camps, set in beautiful Surrey fields and woodland, provide active, outdoor fun for children and teens aged 8 to 14.

When and where?

Our next 2019  Holiday Day Camps are taking place on 29th July -2nd August in our beautiful, private woodland setting at Harts Lane, South Godstone, Surrey, RH9 8LZ

Each day runs from 8.30am to 5pm and we’ll spend all day outside*, setting up camp together first thing and then packing the day with a range of activities including archery, laser tag, camp cooking, shelter building, crafts and forest skills. Our range of team games and problem-solving activities, including building and navigating obstacle courses, map-reading and more will keep your youngsters on the go all day. It’s not relentless action though, there will always be a quiet area set up for your child to take some time out to recharge, read or simply watch the clouds go by for a while, which we all need to do from time to time.

*We do have shelter to retreat to if the weather misbehaves too much but aim to be outside as much as possible, whatever the weather – we’ll adapt activities to make the most of the environment around us.

Feedback from 2018’s Summer Day Camps –

‘Just wanted to say what a great time Tristan had at the activity camp last week.  He’s been to a few ‘outdoor camps’ but never rated them.  HE thought yours was outstanding though and he really had a great time.  Looks like you have the right recipe there!’

‘Thanks for the last two days. Kids have had a blast.’

A child on what they liked best – ‘making a den with my friends, meeting Matt, trying new fruit (honey dew melon!), laser tag’

‘I would just like to let you know my two boys had an absolutely wonderful time today!  I would definitely recommend your Day camp! Thank you for making their day unforgettable!’

‘…very different to the usual activities offered by Dash camps and Mega days which tend to be based around sports such as football, which is boring for a non-sporty child.’

The not-so-obvious benefits

Make Ready’s Holiday Day Camps focus on fun and making the most of nature, with friends. We don’t follow a formal ‘curriculum’, this isn’t school. However, we’re an experienced team specialising in outdoor education so can’t help but set out the benefits summer camps like this bring…

Spending long days outside, with woods and fields to explore, no homework to do (and, dare we say it, no parents or teachers) is rare for many children these days. We give them that experience. We build their confidence, develop their communication skills, teach them new practical skills and introduce them to traditional games they may not have encountered yet. We build their familiarity with the natural world and we support them, in a light touch way, to make friends. Most importantly, we give them the space to have fun.

Booking & prices

Each individual day, 8.30am to 5pm, costs £40 per child. If you book all five days  the price drops to a total of £170 (a £30 discount). . Early drop off at 8am is £5 extra per day.

We plan our Day Camps as a week-long experience and would love to have your child join us for the full week but do offer bookings by the day too – whatever suits you.

To book a place, please fill out our simple online booking form.  We’ll get back to you within one working day to confirm availability and give you payment details. Your place/s will be confirmed once we have received your deposit.

We can offer a maximum of thirty places each day. Do book quickly as we expect places to go fast.

Each day is different at a Make Ready Day Camp, depending upon the setting, the weather, and the group dynamic. We want our Day Campers to feel that they can take things at their own pace and are careful to ensure they feel included, comfortable and safe at all times, yet don’t feel as if they’re being overly-directed or put through a bootcamp. We also take a flexible approach to differentiating between children and teens of different ages. All activities are age-appropriate, many in mixed age groups, others in smaller groups where age is often but not always a factor, it depends on the individual.

What to wear and bring:

Our Day Camps are all about being outside and active so kids need to wear comfortable, sensible (washable!) clothing suitable for running around and playing. Bear in mind they may well get muddy, end up with grass stains etc. Please wear trainers but bring wellies too, just in case. Sun hats, suncream and raincoats are essential.

We have no kitchen facilities at our Day Camps. We provide snacks and drinks but your child needs to bring a packed lunch please.

It’s fine to bring a book or comics for some quiet time out but children won’t need anything else, we provide all equipment for games and activities.

What not to wear and bring

No precious designer outfits please and no long trailing skirts, dresses or anything else that might trip kids up or get in the way.

No electronic devices please – we can’t take responsibility for these and there won’t be opportunity during the day to use them. If it’s absolutely essential that your child brings a phone with them we can store it during the day. We will give all parents and carers a mobile number to call if need be during the day and will happily take essential messages. We will also, where you give permission, take some photos each day and share those (privately and securely) with parents and carers.
